Singapore — The inclusion of Delta Offshore Energy’s gas-fired power project in the Vietnamese government’s 10-year electricity program has paved the way for the signing of an LNG supply deal with Magnolia LNG and the US export project’s final investment decision, the companies said in separate statements this week. The project is one of several being planned in Vietnam that will see the country become a key LNG importer in the next decade as it boosts power consumption, with the Delta Offshore plant unique in its tie-up for US LNG.

The Vietnamese government on December 19 approved the inclusion of the 3,200 MW capacity power plant in Bac Lieu province in its official National Power Development Plan for 2011-2020, allowing for private sector investment the country’s electricity projects.
